Dear Community,

During this time of great uncertainty and global health and safety concerns, we would like to reach out to express our love and solidarity to our extended queer latin dance family. In addition to the everyday challenges so many are facing, COVID-19 poses particular challenges to us as dancers who depend on the gathering of people for work, mental and physical health, and creative expression.

Over the past two years, the Queer Latin Dance Festival has grown into an important space for transformative culture and healing. So many of us look forward to this time together where we can celebrate each other, our bodies, our health, and our culture, and the creative resilience of LGBTQ+ people. When we were first alerted to COVID-19 and the international calls for social distancing, we sought guidance from mentors and friends across the latin dance world to discuss next steps. Over the last month, we have spent time with our hotel venue, vendors, performers, and teachers to see how we might address our upcoming festival in the face of this crisis. We have also paid attention to CDC and state directives around social gatherings and best practices for staying healthy to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

It is with all this in mind, we are deeply saddened to announce that the Queer Latin Dance Festival, scheduled for June 12-13, 2020 will be postponed until 2021. The festival will not be re-scheduled for 2020.

For those that purchased tickets to the Queer Latin Dance Festival 2020, your tickets will be honored AND you will have the option of transferring your ticket to another name, at no additional cost, for admission to the next Queer Latin Dance Festival in 2021. We appreciate your support and flexibility during these times. If you have any questions or concerns, you can reach us at info@queerlatindancefestival.com

We hope everyone reading this is healthy, staying home, and taking precautionary measures during these times of COVID-19. If you’re unsure about what to do or what information is real please visit  CDC.gov for the most accurate and up to date information.

These are hard times for many of us around the world so here are a few gentle reminders:

  • Check on your Queer/Trans elders, community, and loved ones

  • Set daily affirmations

  • Write down the things you are grateful for

  • Stay active as much as you can

  • Embrace gratitude and manifest abundance in your life

  • May we never forget the magic of being alive

At this time, we still plan to host the Queer Latin Dance Festival 2021 in San Jose, California. Please stay tuned on our website, Facebook and Instagram pages for updates over the next year. Thank you all for your continued support. We love and appreciate every one of you.
